Coaching for your organisation’s improved health

stethascopeIn the healthcare sector it is now, more than ever before, crucial to use resources in the best possible way to give results that improve patient outcomes. Pressures on budgets, and the amount of facilities available to clinical staff, continually drive the need for finding solutions that are both effective and efficient.

Coaching has become an increasingly popular tool for supporting personal development, and this can bring benefits to the administrative infrastructure within the healthcare environment, as well as the purely medical function.

Highly skilled people, trained at a huge cost over several years, are experts within their field, and want to achieve the very best for their patients. However, there is no automatic right to expect a specialist member of the nursing or treatment team to be equally as gifted in the organisation of areas outside their immediate qualification. Removing a ruptured appendix, or delivering a baby, is very different to being able to manage stock and identifying gaps in a departmental skills matrix.

Coaching is an excellent tool to use to help people overcome their own challenges by developing capability, self-awareness and self-sufficiency. Some of the reasons to consider the use of coaching include:

  • Performance improvement
  • Preparation and support for people in leadership roles
  • Support of individual learning and personal development

At IiE, our expert coaches can work with individuals or groups within your organisation to establish the best way to align the needs of the parties concerned to deliver the best outcomes possible. Understanding the most important areas to be prioritised, and the best ways to approach that activity, form a large part of how your people and their coach will work together. Coaching works towards performance improvement, and usually focuses on specific goals, for example an individual’s personal effectiveness such as social interaction or confidence. A method we have used with success is based around the GROW model.
