Health services in Rotherham are in excellent hands as the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) today (4 June) becomes the first NHS commissioning organisation in Britain to achieve the Investors in Excellence Standard.
NHS Rotherham CCG, the clinically-led group responsible for making sure that the patients have the healthcare services they need at the right time, has been awarded the Standard following a rigorous assessment process.
The Investors in Excellence Standard is a prestigious mark of excellence awarded to those organisations that demonstrate a high standard of all-round business performance. It is a very testing Standard covering all key business areas including leadership, people and customer results – but its scope makes it a powerful improvement tool.
Chris Edwards, Chief Officer, NHS Rotherham CCG said: “We are delighted to become the first Clinical Commissioning Group to be awarded the Investors in Excellence Standard, which is in line with our drive to deliver and work to the highest standards and deliver the best possible services for Rotherham patients.
We have recently completed our first year as a statutory organisation and this recognition reinforces the excellent progress we have made. The dedication that our staff and GP members demonstrate is our major strength and we continue to harness their talents to enable us to make the right commissioning decisions for the people of Rotherham. We are committed to ensuring that the people of Rotherham have access to high quality, safe healthcare services when they need it.”
How it works
The Standard covers five essential areas based on ten principles of excellence that are embedded in the day to day activities of an excellent organisation. Having established what matters most, the principles of excellence focus on achieving a balanced set of positive measured outcomes through effective and efficient leadership, resourcing and delivery.

The CCG is grateful to NHS West and South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Commissioning Support Unit for helping them to identify the Investor in Excellence Standard, encouraging the use of the excellence framework and supporting the them through the application process.
